Find versatility in engineered hardwood flooring

If you have below-grade spaces and want wood floors for your home, you will likely hear about engineered wood flooring. It’s a great alternative to solid wood in these areas, but they are perfect for every other room in your home as well. Let’s find out more about how they could potentially fit into your lifestyle.

A few essential facts about engineered flooring

Engineered flooring features a stable construction that starts with plywood layers that are stacked in a perpendicular form. A veneer of solid hardwood is added to these layers, then topped with a wear layer for added protection. The layers prevent the flooring from expanding and contracting as vehemently when temperatures or humidity levels change, while the wear layer protects against average daily wear.

While these floors are a perfect addition to below-grade spaces, where solid wood cannot be installed, it's great for every other room in your home as well. In addition to protecting against warping and cracking, it does a great job of protecting against scratches, stains, and scuffs that could mar your beautiful finish.

When properly installed and maintained, engineered materials can give you a lifespan that averages 35 years. Depending on the thickness of the wood veneer you choose, you can even refinish these floors, just as you can solid hardwood flooring. The thicker the veneer, the more times you can refinish the floors before you need to replace them.

As with all wood flooring, you get visuals that easily meet any décor need. Even if trends change in a few years, you may still be current, thanks to the timelessness of these materials. If you want to see them for yourself, or if you’d like to discuss your options with an associate, be sure to visit our showroom.
